Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I go with LR Communications?

LR Communications is set apart from its competition due to the excellent level of customer service, reliable Internet, fast speeds, and commitment to upgrade with evolving technology.

Fixed Wireless Service, Cellular Service, Satellite Service…huh?

Of the three listed above, Fixed Wireless Service is the fastest and most reliable. Fixed Wireless Service can obtain speeds faster than a standard wireless router can deliver, even over the cable itself. Cellular Service is often intermittent and slow. This is because you’re sharing a tower with dozens to thousands of cellular telephones at the same time. All of these devices are pulling bandwidth, which takes away from the quality of your connection. Fixed Wireless Service towers should not exceed 65 subscribers per access point. We have set that mark as a “hard-cap” for our service and will never exceed that point without adding another access point. Satellite Service has the same end result as Cellular Service but for a completely different reason. Satellite Service beams your data to a satellite orbitting at about 22,000 miles above Earth. When you send something over the Internet, each packet that is sent out typically has to travel twice that distance to reach its destination. On top of that, a single Satellite can cover over 3,700 miles, which is about the longest straight line you can draw across Russia. Imagine how many people you’d be sharing bandwidth with then!

Do you need a land line phone to have high speed internet?

For Fixed Wireless Internet, you do not need to have a telephone line. For DSL, a telephone line is required for service.

What is the difference between DSL (HVDL) and ADSL?

DSL is available to any customer in our phone service area. It runs off of your cable pair and cat five wiring. The upload and download speed is the same. ADSL runs off of a modem that runs off of our equipment in the central office or in certain remotes that are set up for ADSL transmission. ADSL also has a slower upload speed.

Can I set up more than one computer?

You can connect multiple computers directly using a wireless router. The router will allow you to connect wireless devices and up to 4 devices directly with ethernet cables. LR Communications has a router maintenance plan available for both ADSL and Wireless customers. You may also purchase a router online or at any big box store.
